I think they have included him only because of the World Cup. With it heading, India needs someone who can score some runs and also stays at the wicket. He performed well in last tour in Caribbean. So, they are, maybe, looking for a permanent no. 3 batsman. Though risky, but I think it´s a good move by the selectors. Where they have tried players like Venugopal Rao, Suresh Raina, Ghambir, and the most shocking decision came when they included Piyush Chawala for England series. Eventhough he bowled only 14 overs in that match. So, why not Wasim Jaffer?

Rawal.

Mumbai's cricket is dying. So Pawar wanted a few from Mumbai. He brought in Vengsarkar. Vengy shifted Zaheer Khan to Mumbai - and that's how he got in. And for Jaffer, he is ONLY in the squad because Pawar and Vengy thought another Mumbai cricketer should be in the squad. He won't get into double digits in any of the matches.

i think is well equiped with a good technique to face the seam, bouncy and swinging ball in southafrica. but dont u think he is a more of a test player than odi simply because he is not an aggrassive player which is verymuch needed in odi cricket. so i maynot consider him as a odi batsman giventhat he doesnt change his attitude.

He is a technically correct batsman well suited for Test Matches. For One Day Internationals, Gautam Gambhir was a better choice than Jaffar.
