It used to be called a family tradition to have your mouth washed out with soap for talking badly. I guess it is an Urban Legend now because if somebody reported that today they call it child abuse.
The morale of this is:
It tasted AWFUL but we lived to tell the the tell without taking a gun to school & blowing away everyone we seen because we had a bad hair day!
I say bring the family tradition & do away with the urban legend.

These days as I hear some peoples foul mouths, I wish they would. Yes when I was 12 yrs old or so, I challenged my Momma and said a cuss word around her and she took me in the bathroom and stuck a bar of soap in my mouth and yeah I definetly learned my lesson!

When I was a kid. Taught me not to swear in front of my parents!!!! I tried it on my very unruly son which he laughed. I told him to go wash his mouth out with water and that is when he freaked when all the bubbles started coming out! He quit swearing in front of me. Do not use soaps made nowadays! I used an old one like Ivory. Now it might also be called child abuse.

It is NOT an urban legend!!!
I have had my mouth washed out with soap.
Usually it was for something that came out of it that shouldn't have. lol

ha ha, yes i have when i was younger!
My mom made me leave it in my mouth for 1 min, that might not seem like a very long time but you put soap in your mouth and see how long you want it there, yuck!!

My teacher in 2nd grade washed my mouth out. Straightened me up. Need to do it more often!

Yes i washed my sons out when he was about 7yrs old hes 20 now. He was swearing and his dad heard him lol Didnt do it again though

i did back in first grade the teacher put soap in my mouth cause i swore i bet they cant do this on schools now (this was in 81)

I did a couple of times when I was younger for saying things I shouldn't have said.
