Greed. Why else?
The government allows big corporations to dominate the economic stability of the country, and that will eventually be the downfall of a world economy.
Once WalMart (and CVS, or Walgreens, or any other retail monopoly) dominates the world, the backbone of most nations' economies - small business - will crumble.
WalMart uses child and slave labor in China, brow beats their vendors in selling at prices that force them into bankruptcy, and pays their employees as little as they possibly can. Still, four of Sam Walton's relatives are always among the top ten richest people in the world, according to Forbes magazine.
Elimination of the middle class, and of the small business community, will ultimately eliminate the economic stability of most communities. Because money continues to circulate in communities when small businesses are in operation. Once WalMart and CVS takes over, all the money goes back to Bentonville and Rhode Island. -RKO-

Wal-Mart introduced the $4 generic Rx plan since there are a lot of people who do have Rx coverage. This makes it easier for the uninsured. This, in turn has created more competition amongst the retail pharmacies, and therefore the larger retail pharmacies are buying out the smaller ones.

Because we are letting them. They obviously have a good business plan and people go to the stores. I agree with Wal-Mart, but CVS? I thought Walgreen's was still #1.

Oh, that's simple. They buy everything from the Chinese, under-cutting Americans, and then sell it dirt cheap.

The long term consequences of this sort of thing will most likely be catastrophic.

PS. Woops, I only now saw that you were referring to pharmacies.

They are cutting out the ridiculous profit. Some drugs made here, are sold to Canada and then sold back in the USA for a mere fraction of the regular price. Proving that drug companys are incredibly greedy. What they (Walmart, etc) are doing is getting the people into their stores. Once your in a store, you're more apt to purchase some of that Chinese merchandise!! Loss leader.
