A craftsman is someone who works with folksy materials, Wood, yarn, fabric, in an extent of using these materials in the jonder of craft. A form of expression that may be considered, Less than other forums such as sculpting, and painting. I think sculptures make alittle more money and are in more demand. In this time of history, people don't look at paintings as. "Allot of work", thought they are wrong. I think it is the materialism thought of it as well. Paintings are just canvas, and frame, while carvings are big, bulky, and seem More substantial for the money put out for it.
Hope this helps.

A philosophical question, I believe.

80% of all art work is craft. Hopefully, one can occasionally take a piece a step beyond to make it art.

Successful artists sell their work. Prior to 1900, almost all the famous art works were commissions -- like the Mona Lisa.

My best guess would be paintings -- they can be used for book covers, magazines, ads, museums, exhibitions, carted about easily. Just the scale alone might be the deciding factor.

If an artist must suffer for his art, he should also reap the rewards of his effort. There is probably more money in sculpture, but in order for it to pay off, the sculptor must be very, very good. In any art, you must create a body of work, the more you produce, the better your chances of selling that work. Good luck!
