One of my single guy friends recently said he wanted me to have his kids (in an email). Yikes. I am happily married, and he knows this, so I was really hoping it was some sort of odd joke. I continued reading, and right below that he did indeed say something to the effect of, "I'm just kidding. I thought that might get a rise out of you!" My question is, why on earth would anyone joke about something like that? Is he just being silly or is there a tiny grain of truth in it?

Dvij-I appreciate your honesty but think calling me a "fool" is a little insensitive. I have absolutely no plans to jeopardize my marriage. Also, it seems as though everyone has differing opinions as to whether or not he was kidding, so who's to say I'm wrong for not knowing?

I've used that expression with friends before as a joke. It's a silly over-doing-it way of saying that you're great.

A friend of mine who's female brought me a soda one day without me asking (long story but it was super hot that day and we were working outdoors) and I said, "Oh my god, marry me!" We had a good chuckle about it but that's all. Likewise another time I got a backrub from a female friend and I was enjoying it so much I said, "Will you have my children?"

If he said it was a joke, it probably was. He just thinks you're really cool. he may even think you're hot, but he's still probably joking.

There is 100 % truth in what he said. I don't understand you, how u believed and thought that he is just kidding. You really are a fool. Sorry if I hurt you. If he did respected you as a friend, he would never let the idea come out of his mind. You are happily married. Why do you want to spoil ur married life. Think with brain. And my sincere advice is avoid talking with that person. He may say sorry etc., Rest is left to you. And you call this as a joke. Seems u r joking.

He probably is just joking. Some people have strange senses of humour. However, I would have to say perhaps he has thought that if he wanted to have a child and needed someone to have his kids, you'd be a fine person to do it. In an odd way it is flattering I guess, that he thinks that highly of you.

I will give you the true answer. It is a fact he want's to sleep with you. There was no joke in it and he said it 1) so you knew and 2) to see if there was ever any chance of him getting to have you. I am a man and I tell it like it is.

how well do you know the guy if you think there is a grain of truth then there probably is go with your gut feeling do you and him normally pick like that if not then you need to let him know what the deal is and tell him if it happens again goodbye because he is invading your personal space

maybe he's seriously joking.... but the thought has once crossed his mind.

if he's a friend of yours... he should respect the marriage you're in and not want to jeopardize it.

i think he just envies you as a model of the gf/mother-of-his-kids he's always wanted.

It sounds to me like he grew to become into hitting on you, yet tried to play it off as a shaggy dog tale whilst he observed the look on your face. i don't bear in mind ever kidding around like that previously i grew to become into married. (and no, I truthfully do not do it now) i think of he grew to become into attempting to verify in case you have been drawn to a sprint "exciting" and he did not get the respond he grew to become into hoping for.

Why wouldn't he joke something about that? If he is your close friend, I bet you know when he's joking right? Since he already stated that he is joking, then he is.
