Flash cards are a big help. Also, reread it over and over again. The more you read it the more familiar it will become to you. If possible, have someone quiz you with your flashcards. They can give you the word and you say the definition, or they can give you part of the definition and you can say the word and the entire definition. Just try different things and rememebr that you cant learn stuff quickly, it takes time and hard work. I know you can do it, keep studying!

because even i had this problems while i used to study hindi words and prepare them for exams.so what i used to do was read the words and read through the meaning and every meaning had some catchy word in them them i used remember that catchy word and spit the whole meanign out or you can associate it with something just close to the meaning.try this it will help you a lot
like
e.g victory: to win against the enemy
so it is all abt winning so remember the word win
or
famine: drought of food crops or daily necessities
so remember drought or starving..
like this you have words which are catchy.. this help you a lot my dear ..let me know how this works out for you!

Make flash cards using index cards. It's a tried and true method.
Visualize the objects the words represent while you say it out loud.
Put things to music and sing it.
Have someone drill you with the flash cards you made.
Practice, practice, practice.
