Haha, welcome to the UK. We don't play sports and we have one of the highest obesity rates in the world - you'll love it...

Hockey is a life-long passion.. and, like most sports, it's passed down from one generation to the next..
Hockey hasn't caught on widely in Great Britian for the same reason soccer (football) hasn't caught on wide spread in the USA.. There are ither diversions or sports that fire the passion and kids play at an early age..
Hockey in the US is very regional.. Pistonballer says there are few rinks, obviously he/she is not from Michigan where there are 151 ice rinks (many with two or three rinks in their complex) and at least six more under construction.. That's just one state.. But Hockey is extremely popular in Michigan and it's handed down from generation to generation.. In Mississippi, for instance, there are four rinks in the entire state.. Hawaii has one rink..
It's all about growing up with a sport, regardless of the sport.. and developing a passion.. I have never sat through an entire soccer game, have no desire to, don;t really like or understand it.. but it's the world's most popular sport, so I suspect if I took the time to learn it, or played it as a kid, I would develope a passion for it.. Likely the same thing in Scotland, where there are teams, it's just not widespread.. And there have been a few players in the NHL from the British Isles.. Byron Dafoe, the Goalie was from Sussex, and Owen Nolan was from Belfast.. So

they havent been introduced to this sport yet which has now become life for me lol. a lot of people think its too dangerous..or are just to lazy to actually exercise and workout..cuz besides football..hockey is one of the most intense and tiring sports out there. plus, can u believe so many people think its actually boring!!?! pssh..as if soccer is better..lol as i type this im sitting here with a broken collar bone stabbing into my chest i got from playing hockey sunday night..and people asked me if i was ever gonna play again..i said HELL YEA!!!!! because hockey players have passion..which is what all of those other people are missing too..its a shame that they dont know of this sport..ive actually transformed 3 of my friends into hockey fans..and hey..its a start..another reason is cuz there arent any rinks around..i have a couple friends who are dying to play hockey but cant because the closest rink is already hours away..but hey..lets be glad that not everyone plays it or even knows about it..it makes the ones who do unique and special..unlike soccer..everyone knows it and plays it cuz its the easiest sport to participate in..but playing hockey means u have a priviledge..see what i mean? im really proud to say "I PLAY HOCKEY!" when someone asks and not "I play soccer just like everyone else in here"

I live in america and hockey is way underrated here too. But I play a litte. Many other people dont play because 1 There are almost no rinks anywhere. 2 Its a much more difficult game that english football or american football or basketball. 3 Its a very expensive game and not many people can afford it. My dad spent over 200 dollars for my equipment and some of it was used. I love hockey though and i wish more people would play it.

Really? Well, I know there are pro Scottish leagues there where you can catch a game, meet up with people, and get a game together yourselves. If not, hey, you can always move to a hockey city here in Canada. Little hint: stay away from Toronto, we're the centre of the hockey universe, but we're full.

I used to play street hockey all the time when I was growing up but nowadays I don't see any of the kids in my neighborhood outside with hockey sticks and Rollerblades.

Well I'm pretty good at nearly all sports but I'm just no good at hockey. I keep missing the ball. I would probably like and play it if I was good at it.
