I will be staying downtown just before Christmas. Would appreciate ideas about best gambling, hotels, eats, etc.

The Golden Nugget is the best hotel in Downtown Las Vegas. They are running a promotion>(a touch of gold) on their rooms from December 10-28th, Sunday through Thursday $59, Friday and Saturday $89.
I like Main Street Station also, and that's where we will be staying for two nights when we are out there in December..MSS rooms are not as nice as GN but I like the casino a lot better and for my level of play MSS takes good care of us. The buffet is very good and I like eating at the 777 Brew Club...Plus MSS has the Vidoe Poker games that I like to play.
The Fremont has a great seafood buffet on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday nights for $16. If you're a night owl or you like to get up really early Binions and The California have "graveyard specials". From 11pm until 6am Binions serves two eggs, hash browns and toast for .99 . From 11pm until 7am California serves two eggs and two pancakes for $2.95 .
The Italian restaurant at GN is called the Grotto now, it use to be Stefano's and it was a really nice place to eat, if the Grotto is as good you will not be disappointed.
You have to try one of the best deals in the history of LV the .99 shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate...

Best gambling - Four Queens & The Cal. Main Street Station best buffet. Hugo's Cellar at Four Qs best romantic restaurant. Rooms are rooms. Even El Cortez fine for $25 a night - nothing further east.
