I started using Aquafor Healing Ointment (slightly thicker than vaseline) on my baby when she was an infant and I still use it today (1 year later). It works great on her dry patches. I also use the baby oil gel but only on her body and not my baby's face. And you might want to consider cutting back on your baby's baths (every two days) especially in the winter month when it's cold and dry. My pediatrician told me not to submerge them in soapy water or bubble baths bc that dries out the skin as well.

How old is your baby ? If he's still newborn, he will loose a layer of skin, so this is normal. If it's just on his back, it's probably due to the fact that he spends most of his time on his back. If baby oil agrees with his skin, baby lotion wouldn't hurt him. Sounds pretty normal to me.

I've found that Vaseline works well on the dry patches. My daughter had chapped cheeks when she was younger, and now has the dry patches occasionally that you mentioned. Vaseline worked well on both. Just a little dab rubs in well on the face, and goes a long way. I usually did it before bedtime. Same with the other areas.

My daughter had eczema when she was a baby. The doctor recommended Dove soap for sensitive skin (no fragrance or dyes) and Lubriderm lotion after the bath. It worked for us.

have you tried using Aveeno Baby Lotion. it is hypoallergenic and fragrance free. your baby might have eczema, have you had a doctor look at it to be sure what you are up against. i just saw a babies eczema lotion at Walgreen's the other day so look into that also

sounds like he has eczema. poor thing. ive found that the best thing to use is Johnsons soothing naturals and aquaphor. the baby oil may not be the best thing to use, since obviously its not working. if you think maybe he is sensitive to scented things you could try cetaphil, that is really good, they have lotion and body wash.

It may be the baby wash you are using on him that is drying out his skin. try using another brand of wash and see if that helps.
Good Luck!
