One mistake a lot of people make is waiting until they've graduated (or are about to graduate) to find a job. It may sound crazy, but grads need to search about a year in advance of graduating. It's so important to network! Research companies and find out what they're all about. Many companies allow you to come in for a day and shadow someone who does the kind of work you'd like to do. If you get to do this, keep in touch with the company!!! It's not what you know, but WHO you know. If you're a suitable candidate, they'll come looking for you around graduation time.

If you do not want to leave your present location, why did you pick psychology as a major? Are there jobs in your area for a psych major? Did you get a AS in psych, or a BS in psych? I would consult your school counselor, they might have a job placement center where you can find a job to match your degree.

yes I'd say get into colllege but even if you only take to years of college you still can get into good business and even start a family because you don't have to go to school for very long just long enough to get a job that pays good and that you enjoy.

Find a job, in your given field, then work on your PhD part time, while you work.
