Can any one recommend a laptop that can be run/charged from a 12 volt power supply like those found in cars (cigarette lighter sockets). I know that some laptops have a power rating far to high for a 12 volt power supply.

You should just get a power converter from Radio Shack or where ever ,I have one that I use for my cell phone ,lap top etc. They're pretty cheap and plug into your lighter then have a normal house electrical plug on the other side. I have only used it with my laptop when the vehicle was running (it worked good)so I don't know if it would kill the car battery quickly -ask before you buy.
