I got diverced in the UK. We handled the divorce ourselves rather than use a lawyer. We waited the two years to have a 'no blame' divorce. From then it took about a year to get the decree nisci, I think. By that time I didn't 'feel' married anyway and we were bot with new partners, it really was just a formality.

Actually, it's just one day short of taking forever!

The length of time between the initial filing of the Petition and the Divorce Decree depends on the state in which you reside. In California, it's 6 months and 1 day.

It took me about a year in Wisconsin. It all depends on how long it takes you and your partner to work out the terms of the divorce. If you agree it will be shorter, if you don't, it might be a long time.

I'm in the UK. I filed in August last year and was legally divorced by June this year, that was with no objections, and everthing going smoothly. Must be dependant on your solicitor and how fast they progress it for you.I have heard it can take up to 2 years if there are objections though.

Hi in Scotland my divorce is due any day now. We had to be separated for a year--- no sexual contact and no living together in that time -- after then it's been three months to get it thro the courts, and that with both of us agreeing to it!! We signed the papers, have to wait 21 days, incase one of us changes their mind (as if!!) It goes to next available court hearing then waits for 16 days!!

Hi it took me a year and a half, because my husband refused to sign the papers, for that long.
But my friend got divorced in 3 months because everything went smoothly.

How long is a piece of string? It depends on where you live, how much money you have and how complicated the break-up is.
Stick to your guns, don't give into unreasonable demands just to make the process quicker.
