There were some really good answers already, so let me posit that perhaps you need three ingredients:
1) a cork, the bigger the better,
2) a sledge hammer.
3) a good, strong friend
you strip naked, bend over forward grasping your ankles. The sphincter of your anal cavity should be at this point properly exposed. Place the cork at the rim. Have your trusted friend pound the cork into the anal orifice. In a few days, with the inability to release fecal matter, you should be properly filled with most of the ideas and thoughts that will lead you in the direction of liberal thought. The longer the cork remains in place, the better an understanding you will have of the primary principles.

Well, if your listening to far-right nutcases, you need to perform some perverted sex act, empty your bowels upon an American flag, sacrifice some babies to the Dark Lord Satan, spit on the soldiers, stomp on the Bible, and force school children to watch gay porn while memorizing Karl Marx.
If you would really like to know what liberal political philosophy is all about, I'd suggest reading up on liberal stances on the issues of the day and seeing if you agree with them.

Some reading on the issues, from various sources. You may not change your mind about anything, but you'll understand your own positions better, and you'll be able to figure out where you stand on new issues before Rush tells you how to look at it.
