Does anyone out there know if it would be worth it to rebuild a 1971 ford ltd. It's in good shape only needs a paint job and a carb. Probally some fine tuning here and there. My dad gave it too me when I got married and its been sitting in the garage for almost 7 years. It sat in his garage for 10 prior. It does start and it does run. I want to either fix it and keep it or sell it as-is and get it out of my life. If I sold it how much would I ask for? If I fixed it how much would it be worth?

LADY, IF THE CAR IS WHAT YOU SAY IT IS (IN GOOD SHAPE) HAVE A MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT BODY WISE AND CONDITION AND CHECK FOR MATCHING NUMBERS.
THAT CAR IS 35 YRS OLD AND CONSIDERED A COLLECTIBLE EVEN IF IT IS A 4-DOOR (2-DOOR WORTH MORE AND MORE IN DEMAND) I'M SURE YOU CAN GET MORE THEN $3000 FOR IT AS IS OR MORE WITH THE PROPER ADVERTISING OR JUST TO HAVE A COLLECTIBLE FOR YOURSELF.
DON'T RUSH INTO GETTING ''RID'' OF IT, RIGHT AWAY BUT AT LEAST CHECK INTO CAR SHOWS OR SWAP MEETS AND TELL PEOPLE WHAT YOU GOT.
BEST THING IS TO HAVE IT APPRAISED TO FIND OUT WHAT IT'S REALLY WORTH....
COST APPROX $100-$150 DOLLARS FOR A DETAILED APPRAISAL.

Selling it you wouldn't get much but those cars came with some big engines and you can get a real drag car out of it. If you have some mechanical skills I say you should turn it out as a pimped drag racer.

If you do sell it wait till the end of January, people will start getting their Tax refunds in and want to blow their money on an old beater. I don't want to sound like a raciest but your target market for a car like that is young black males in an urban enviroment. If you don't have a lot of them around then scrap will be your best bet. I would e-bay the engine.

Do the carb first to find out if it's really in good shape before you start pouring real money into it. Cleaning out the gummed up fuel system should be fun.
You'll have to give it away if it's not running. It would be hard to sell it for what a good paint job would cost.

I would keep it, it is antique but you won't get much for it unless you just happen to find someone collecting those old cars. Fix it up,keep it original, and hold on to it for a while. The older it is the more it will be worth.

just depends on how much you like the car,or your dad likes the car might fix it up to give to him as a special gift back if you wanna get rid of it, if your gonna paint it though i would go with a single stage paint less expensive and a four barrel carb, preferably holley they just work good with them older fords

i had a 72 ford ltd2 once and the frame ate out back by the back bumper, you better check that first, but if your going to sell it,then i would say about 2000 dollars to start out with, heck thats a antique.if you go ahead and fix it,it should be alot more.the ford i had,it had a 400 engine in it,good engine, but like i said the frame ate out.

If it's in good shape, do some minor repair and drive it. If someone sees you in it and they like maybe they will offer you a descent buck for it.
