CONCENTRATION IS THE STATE OF MIND. WITHOUT ANY LIKING FOR ANY SUBJECT YOUR MIND WILL NOT WORK INTO IT. NO LIKING - NO CONCENTRATION. MORE AND MORE INVOLVEMENT - MORE AND MORE CONCENTRATION

reading is a learned skill, obviously. It takes time and practice to get "good" at it. Most to all people that read tend to get easily distracted reading material that is necessary to read but of no interest. To learn the skill of concentration WHILE reading, you should read a paragraph and stop. Let your mind wander. read the next paragraph then stop again. Do this again. Eventually, you will read into the next paragraph without knowing it. Then read a complete page, then stop and repeat the process. Soon you'll be able to read a chapter, maybe two or three at a time.

Hope this helps.

Why do you decide to like something and not another?
What is it that chooses?
To concentrate on anything means a closing down, a focus. When your thoughts your mind want to be elsewhere.
So you then are in conflict,no?
What you need to do against what you want to do.
You always have a choice seemingly don't you?
If it is school work then what is the reason you have been told to read a book?
If its for work what is the reason?
If its merely for amusement then close the book and day dream away!!
Seek beyond the book for the answer.

Try all the combinations by changing the timings, changing the place and also read different subjects for short periods. Only create interest first, then can continue with reading. Have the company of those who are reading. Good luck.

I can only answer with question? Do you need an education when you live in the enter city? Street smart, and changing with each situation presented, is more important than reading. Reading has it's rewards, but can you live without it? Can a caveman grunt? Yes!

In actuality, you DO like to read because you're writing here to read replies to your question... (smile)

Subject matter may be the deterring factor. You just may not be "into" what you're REQUIRED to read. My advice is to look at the "big picture" before you begin. By that I mean to see where your instructor's goal is for having you read the material in the first place.

Then, don't just dive in, but take in small samples of what you're asked to read, bit by bit. Think about what you have just read, and take on another section, etc.

Our minds are constantly working - constantly "whispering" to us throughout the day. YOUR mind is whispering and reinforcing your dislike of the reading material at hand. That blocks you from enjoying or comprehending the words your eyes are seeing on the paper.

Practice telling your mind to follow your eyes and process what THEY see when you're reading. In no time at all, you just may want to devour every piece of literature in sight! (smile)

Thanks for writing, and Good Luck to you!

if we want to do something we dislike but is very necessary , we just have to think of the fruits we are going to get after we sucessfully complete this boring process .... its the same with reading , dancing , boxing , mountaineering , etc ... the practise process is painful but but the end result is good ................ reading for the sake of reading is of no good ,, remembering the fact and using it is the rule of this game .... the purpose of our reading is also important.there is no use of reading something which is not going to help us build a better life and better self. if we have a strong motive , for example ,,, motive of helping the poor by becoming a doctor or motive of earning millions for the one you loved etc etc ....strong motives will drive us to an extent of following the nike priciple just do it ,, and will able us to surpass our thought of i dont like it so i wont do it ...... now thanks for reading what i wrote .......

You have to find something you like. I started with comic books.
Then I discovered that I liked science, so I read science books. This lead me to science fiction.

Its just a matter of finding what you like.

you have to imagine the action! Read a fragment, and watch with your mind what it is really happening! It will be so fun! Try to guess what it's happening next, and will be a pleasure to find out that it's like you thought...
