My 1 month old gets PISSED when she is on her back to sleep. She can hold her head up and she can roll onto her side....but it makes me nervous because they say SIDS is a higher risk when they're on their sides and stomachs. But if I use a sleep positioner she screams all night. What in the world do I do?

My 2 1/2 wk old sleeps on her side and her back. When we were in the hospital, the nurses always had her on her side when they brought her to me. I think it'll be ok, just put her on her back sometimes still.

I have a 3 month old and we went through the same thing. She sleeps in our bed so she falls asleep on her side breastfeeding. I let her stay that way. Here's the thing. You can't freak out too much about SIDS. I did until I realized that once the risk of SIDS is gone (around a year), I'll have to worry about something else! If we spend all of our time as new parents totally freaked out about what COULD happen, we will miss these tender moments that pass so quickly. My advice is to sleep with your baby. This not only has been proven to reduce the risk of SIDS because you are sensitive to any changes in breathing (you wake up so quickly, trust me!) but it also bonds you together. I mainly just do it because it feels right. It's not for everyone, but you should definitely try, especially if you are a little paranoid like I was. Feel free to email me for moral support. Being a new momma isn't easy! Good luck.

Honey, think about how your grandma put you mom to sleep and how your mom put you to sleep. We all survived! I'm going through the same questions & concerns with my daughter who is expecting her first child. Put your baby on her side (make sure her ear is flat) and prop a rolled blanket to form her body. She will be fine. All this new information from studies seem to be making nervous wrecks out of new mothers. Think back to the methods your grandma & your mom used and take their advice, you and your baby will be much happier.

If you want to put your baby to sleep in 20 seconds you must get the "Instant Baby Sleep" MP3 sound track. Here is their official web-site: http://www.instantbabysleep.net

The sound track gently produces energy over the full human hearing spectrum with an embedded pulse that gently eases the brain to the Alpha state well known for drowsiness and sleep induction.

My son slept on his side all the time. One of the nurses at the hospital even put him on his side to sleep. I dont think the stomach sleeping thing is safe, but he still likes to sleep on his side. You have every right to worry because you care. Ask your pediatrician on his/her advice. Just make sure you switch which side she sleeps on to keep her head shaped even. Congradulations!

What I would do for my son when he was newborn was roll up blankets and stick them behind his back and in front of him. That way he could sleep on his side and I didn't have to worry about him rolling over.

if she can roll on to her side, she will end up there no matter what. Put her on her side, and when she is really out try to roll her to her back. Good luck, she sounds like a pistol!

Use a sleep positioner to keep her on her side. Babies who sleep without positioners on their sides and stomachs fall victem to sids because they move themselves into positions that cause suffocation or blocked air ways.

most sleep positioners are specially designed to imobalize infant sleepers in any position, either back or side.

If you're still not comfortable with that idea, you're just going to have to allow her to screem and fuss until she realizes she can sleep on her back without trouble. It just takes time.

honestly dont worry about SIDS unless there is a history of it in your family. my son was fine on his side AND belly. i was worried about SIDS too, but my pediatrician told me it was fine.
