when you are further along the extra weight can press on one of your major blood vessels and cut off the blood supply to vital parts of your body. BUT i watched a show about pregnancy recently and the OB said that whatever way you are able to sleep comfortably is fine. if, in the middle of the night your body is in any way compromised by your position (weight pressing on your blood vessel) your body will respond to that and you will automatically change positions. so i wouldn't worry about it too much.

For me toward the end of my pregnancy the baby was laying on my sciatic nerve so I couldn't sleep on my back. It was impossible because of shooting pains up and down my back. I think you are suppose to sleep on your right side (I am not sure which side it is) because of better oxygen flow to your baby. The most comfortable way for me to sleep was with a body pillow. I wrapped my arms and legs around it and slept like a baby.

The weight of the baby puts a lot of pressure on your internal organs when you sleep on your back. When I would sleep on my back I would have to literally roll out of bed. It can be difficult to find a comfortable position when you are pregnant...I would suggest one of the body pillows.

this is more common when you are at least five to six months pregnant and up because of the pressure of the baby. It is best to sleep on your side, preferably your left side because it allows nutrition from the placenta to get to your baby better, and its more comfortable while you sleep.

It's not that it's "not safe" but as you get bigger, if you sleep on your back it's putting alot of pressure on your back from all the baby weight. It's safe but very uncomfortable.

As long as you are comfortable that way, it is fine.
As you get huge towards the end, sleeping on your back could make you uncomfortable and might restrict bloodflow to your lower body. You'll know when it isn't OK anymore because you'll no longer be comfortable that way.

sleep however you want but know that you will be spending some $ on a chiropractor when 9 months come! i suggest that you buy a pregnancy pillow for your belly and sleep on your side!

Because of the weight of the Baby.

It can cause problems because of all of the weight from your tummy and it decreases oxygen flow to your baby. however my doc told me I could as long as it was comfortable. As soon as it becomes uncomfortable stop. Hope this helps.
