Depends on how bad it is. Perhaps he should go to a doctor and have it lanced, cleaned out and get antibiotics.

A boil is something that has a "core" and until that core is removed it will not heal up. You can sterilize a needle and slowly and carefully pick the head off and then gently squeeze and work the core out. Then clean it well and protect it with a band aid. Good luck. Pops

First answer is a good one. The source is probably an ingrown hair, you might want to look for that when the infection is gone. Maintanence, daily scrubbing with a loofa and some good antibacterial soap. Should another start, get to it before it gets big and check for the ingrown hair.

local heat 20 min on 20 min off for several hours will bring it to a head and then you can puncture it and drain it.
