We can already clone, make cross breads like tiger & lions ( ligers), zebera & hourse (Zorse),camel & llama (Cama) ect...
Even chimeras.....in 1984 a chimeric geep was produced by combining embryos from a goat and a sheep[3]...... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheep-goat_chimera
Interspecies chimeras are made in the laboratory. In addition to the famous geep, there are rat/mouse chimeras and a rabbit/human chimera that was not allowed to develop beyond a few days.....

I think in maybe 600 hundred years it might be a real possibility. and with a few more hundred years maybe a real life dragon, though I don't think that would be a good Idea, lol. what do you think? yes? no?

Given enough time, sure. What will motivate them to do it? Probably, "ooh, do you know what would be cool", or "hey, Disney will pay us 4 billion dollars to make a fire breathing dragon". So boredom or greed. Either way, a genetically engineered dragon in the future is not impossible.

I am not sure how much work would be needed and of course the dragon will only have the attributes that physics and biology can. Such as, a Godzilla size creature is more than likely impossible. Far too large, there is a lot of physics explaining why something that large just cannot live. The size of the dragon vs. the ability to fly. If they make it really large then it will probably not be able to fly, but a tiny flying dragon is not too impressive. The firebreathing will probably not be that great either. It will more than likely not be a napalm type explosion, but more of a methane type poof.

Also, for other creatures. It would probably be impossible to engineer a werewolf. The biology to change a man to wolf from just the moonlight is not there. A medusa can be made but she would not be able to turn people to stone with her glare, just hang around with snakes for hair. Vampires might be a little easier, a creature that drinks blood and is killed by exposure to direct sunlight. However, that is pretty much the limits, no changing to bats or being invulnerable to all attacks except for wooden stakes and sunlight. Also, it would not be able to convert others to vampirism thru a bite. Well, more than likely not. A retrovirus to change the recepients DNA might happen, but that would probably just kill the victem and not change them.

So I believe it will be possible within the limits of science to see creatures with traits resembling aspects of mythological creatures in the next few centuries.

I think < jared e> is right about why. if not just because to see if they can, greed or any other thing. so ya, I think it will happen. but I was thinking more along the lines of Pegasus & unicorns. we already have the horses and other animals with horn & wings. I think it would not be to hard to combin them since they already exist. I think the dragon would be smaller too. maybe a small dinasor with "dragon" modifications. maybe even mermaids eventally who knows. It would be cool to see a majestic pegusas flying through the sky....unless it's flying over me and drops one, EWW

HELL sure, I do trust. Vampires, not a lot. Many in by some potential they do exist. Werewolves I do trust. in many cases because legend speaks of community individuals receiving the present of transformation into wolves by the gods. and likewise I do trust that different mythical creatures do exist. nicely it really is purely me...

we can create but it might be of no use to us
we might as well as go for harmless pobots who operate on no kind of human intelligence
it is a bit scary to think of creatures who can act of their own free will created by us
it might itself might become a destruction
but on the other hand it might prove very useful too

it is possible but these might somehow be related to some specious already living on earth
man had not found as much as to reate someything of his own free will and he never will too
there's a reason why mythical creatres do not live in this world now
and we must respect them

Possible, yes possible. But you have to also think of why on earth we would do that? It would only lead to bad things.
