We all have to be in the spotlight sometime, and more than we know. Like when someone asks our opinion about something socially or at work. The way we "perform" directly or indirectly effects someone else. Or as parents- we are always "on the stage" because our kids watch what we do and take their cues from us. Knowing these things does not mean that I have always performed well. There is so much of life we are not prepared for. Just as if you are an actor in a play, or a dancer, or a speaker- Preparedness is key. I have done all three, and the spotlight is quite infectious when I was able to communicate with confidence because I knew I was prepared. Times when I was not so prepared, the spotlight seemed like an obtrusive enemy, forcing from me what doesn't seem to exist. The main thing I try to remember is that however idiotic I might appear to be, there is someone somewhere who has appeared more idiotic than I have.
We all just do our best.

Hmmm, that really depends on the situation. If the "spotlight" is a speech in front on hundreds or thousands of people on a subject that I'm passionate about, then, sure, I'd love it.
If the "spotlight was me dancing in front of those same people, I'd be beet red from embarrasment.
I'm not a "center of attention" person, but I admire "spotlighted" people, who at parties, tell the greatest jokes and stories. The person that everyone wants to befriend. On the other hand, I can't stand those "spotlighted" people who, to be the center of attention (they think), talk non-stop about themselves, and are loud and obnoxious.
I'm curious about the answers. Good question.

It's funny. Most of the time I'm an introverted person, hate and avoid crowds and parties. But as a blues musician (harmonica player and vocalist), and vaudevillian comic and recitator I connect with the audience. I'm not to shy when it comes to the stage, and I'd rather be there than anywhere else I know, other than the street corner.
