To become a professional astronomer usually requires a PhD. To get into an astronomy PhD program you need a bachelors degree in a related field. Most astronomers I know did their BS or BA in physics. A couple did electrical engineering. Some did a BS in astronomy. In my opinion, a physics BS gives you a better grounding in the skills you need in an astronomy PhD program, especially if you did a summer or two of astronomy research as an undergraduate.

No. Even on the undergraduate point they're separate - you will have an undergraduate diploma in physics with out ever taking a direction in astronomy. although, in case you desire to grow to be an astronomer you'll want a good historic past in physics. I majored in physics as an undergrad, yet in elementary terms by way of fact my college does not furnish an astronomy or astrophysics diploma. I did, although, take just about each astronomy direction offered for undergrads. I then went directly to get my grasp's diploma in astronomy (it extremely is interior the U. S., i'm unsure if a grasp's interior the U. S. is comparable to it is in different international places). maximum of my fellow classmates in grad college had undergraduate stages in physics or in astronomy/astrophysics, yet i think of one had a diploma in electric powered engineering or some thing comparable.

This is not a compulsory course in MSc in Indian univ, but some universities offer special paper (elective subject) on this topic. I heard only in osmania univ, MSc course in astronomy/astrophysics is available. Please check. You may get in touch with the InterUniversity center for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune. Those people may advise you.

It's not usually included in a pure physics program. Look for a school with astrophysics and you'll find what you're looking for .
