$1 worth of pre 1964 silver coins contains .7236 troy ounces of silver. $100 face contains 72.36 ounces of silver x $15/ounce = $1085.40. Dealers typically buy at 10-15% below spot and typically are paying $800 -$900 for $100 face at the present time. Some pay less because they fear that the price will drop because it has risen so quickly recently. They don't want to get stuck "holding the bag".
