Please can you bear in mind that the Free version is being discontinued in January '07 - therefore it will no longer work.

Just thought I'd let everyone know.

My personal recommendation for its replacement is a program called Prevx1 (http://www.prevx.com), but please feel free to answer with your own recommendations and I will award the 10 points accordingly.

Hi Again,

Sorry if this caused confusion. I heard this information directly from someone at AVG and hadn't read the website. I will follow this up with my contact.

Rubbish!! AVG is NOT being discontinued, only version 7.1 is being discontinued.. They have introduced a new FREE version of AVG 7.5 which can be downloaded from here http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

You should get your facts correct before you start scaremongering those who use AVG.

GRISOFT is announcing a new version of the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. This new 7.5 version with improved performance and full compatibility with the latest Windows Vista version is available. Users that are using AVG Free 7.1 will be provided with a specific dialog, within the next few weeks, with the opportunity to choose the right option fulfilling their needs. AVG Free 7.1 version will be discontinued on 15th of Jan 2007.

Thank you, I have been using AVG for a long time and have not had any problems with it. Sorry to hear it will no longer work. I will check out the one you suggest.

One that I also have is Spyware Begone. It works great.

I tried the program, it will cost me money and I can't use it unless I pay. I can't use the trial version with out paying and can't remove it from my computer. Not impressed.

IF YOU HAVE A PAID RENEWAL TO AVG AND ACCIDENTALLY CLICK ON AN UPGRADE TO A FREE VERSION OF AVG YOU WILL WI[E OUT YOUR PAID VERSION OF AVG. THE SUPPORT FOR AVG SEEMS TO BE CONTRACTED OUT TO TECHNICIANS WHO SEEM POSSIBLY NOT TO LIVE IN THE SAME COUNTRY THE CUSTOMER DOES.
