For spyware I would recommend AdAware.

Ad-aware or Spybot S&D
Both are free. I use both
p.s. make sure if you look for Spybot S&D that the name is accurate (either Spybot S&D or Spybot Search & Destroy). There is some scuzzy software out there which charges, isn't as good, and is considered spyware which goes by a similar name.

I love my CyberDefender. Ten times faster than other packages, catches 95% and only $46. No program catches all so I also use Ad-Aware from lavasoft.com. Also SuperAntiSpyware is free, as well as Ad-aware.
