doe anyone one know what the legel age to buy and own a vehicle in ontario canada???

my nefew is 17 yrs old and bought a car with his own money he has his full licence but my brother (his father the dumb *** of the family )said that it's illegal for for him to own a car at his age i think it's BS and i need info if anyone could tell me or help me i mean at the age of 14 u can live on ur own at 16 yrs u can buy a house (that is if you can find someone to take u on) so whats so wrong in buying a car at 17yrs i think my brother is just trying to stop him because he wont be paying for his gas anymore he charges like $40 a week just to go 10 mins drive away... way to much.. on top of that he charges for showers $30 a month and he doesn't even pay for water this is crazy... please if u have any good feed back on this ....thanks in advance

I'm not actually sure, but I don't think *owning* it would be a problem at any age. A dying adult could will their vehicle to an underage child, and I don't see why it would matter, as long as they don't drive it until they ge a license.

You might want to check with auto insurance companies, though, as I assume they wouldn't insure a car owned by someone without a license.

Ahh... if only I had better paid attention in business law class. It seems to me that my vague recollections tell me that anyone aged 17 and under can not legally enter into a contract. Buying goods, such as a car, would be a contract matter, even if it was unwritten and paid for in cash. Can someone confirm this?
p.s. Entering into a contract agreement with a minor renders in null and void in any case, it just depends on what the age is for contract law in Ontario, and I can't see any reason why it would be any different than the age of majority?
