What is their reasoning behind this choice, and where might I find more information?

1. Of course they do! The Quakers have always campaigned for improved social conditions, including health. "In 1768, a Quaker doctor, Thomas Dimsdale, was invited to Russia by Empress Catherine II to introduce vaccination against smallpox."

2. There are too many differences for any reasonable person to link the Quakers (the Society of Friends) to the Amish.
a) The Quakers originated in England. They dress no different from anyone else, and they embrace technology like the rest of us.

b) The Amish originated in continental Europe (Switzerland/Germany/Holland). They have their own dress and they eschew technology.
