In the book... Faramir. Hands down. He's an outlaw, but on the side of good. He wears green! That part where he comes out of the forest and meets the hobbits is one of my favourite parts.
Also, Eowyn. She's so damn cool in the book, disappointed in love, she goes out to fight for good and her family honour. I was quite disappointed by her portrayal in the film, she was too sulky and not shining enough!
Otherwise... Treebeard! And I have to say it always disappoints me (although I understand it) that they don't have Tom Bombadil in the films...
In the films... hmmm harder, because Peter Jackson doesn't concentrate on character so much as epic story and effect. That's not necessarily a criticism. I have to say I liked Legolas, even though Orlando Bloom isn't a great actor in my book.
Gandalf was cool, but a little bit lame when he became Gandalf the White.
But Boromir wins, because Sean Bean was awesome, and that's the best screen death ever. EVER I say. :D

The best Lord of the rings character is definitely Aragorn because he is strong but has so many feelings. He is afraid of what he will become. He is a great swordsman and can speak elvish very well. I no that Viggo Mortensen who plays Aragorn actually put pain into the movie by braking his toe and chipping his tooth and also cut his hands with all the sword fighting. I think it is also amazing that he is actually like the character.
I also think Legolas is a great character because of his skill with a bow and the power he has is fantastic. Orlando Bloom who plays Legolas also put pain into the movie because he broke his rib falling of his horse. But my all time favourite is Aragorn, King of Gondor.

In the books - Eowyn, strong ballsy character who took on the Lord of the Nazgul.
In the films - Aragorn, wonderful character, great casting - what a stroke of luck when they got rid of Stuart Townsend and hired Viggo Mortensen

I will definately agree with the majority and say Gollum. The character was perfectly designed to interpritate how most would imagine him. Even to the way he moves and the way in which he speaks. But I slo liked many others; Legolas for his true fairytale look and role in the story, Aragorn for his true king role, Arwen for her love for Aragorn, and of course Treebeard for his unusualness, yet striking appearance. I havent read the book, though I would love to get my hands on one of the older copies. (if only I could afford it)
Truely great film, absolute pleasure to watch, looking forward to the 3rd part on sunday!

I liked the King in the movie for obvious reasons but I really think that Frodo was the coolest in the books and the films because the poor guy had so much to go through....and he does it with Sam's help,of course, but Aragorn was so heroic and handsome!

Eowyn is my admired character, she is gloomy and robust and is tremendously lots the only woman character to pass by way of an significant exchange. She is likewise the only i will relate to because of the fact she has a brilliant worry of dealing with existence neglected and Wormtongue prays on her fears. and that i had my own Wormtongue for an prolonged time. So i will detect along with her tries to interrupt loose. My least admired character is Saurman the White. He betrayed Gandalf and due to his own thirst for capability fell pray to the dark Lord. in many techniques, i think of that makes him greater risky because of the fact his authentic nature wasn't obtrusive and others had located their have faith in him. If i'd desire to fulfill all people it could be Bilbo. I advise it began with him, did not it? He'd probably have distinctive exciting issues to declare. And he'd grant solid foodstuff at a similar time as we talked i'm particular! i could probably be a Hobbit. perhaps Rosie or an in any different case unnamed Hobbit. i like the belief of the effort-free existence Hobbits lead. Tending a backyard, ingesting and gossiping in a pub, making a music and dancing, their love of foodstuff (exceedingly that!). Having no actual interest or theory for the wider international around them and the wider international having no actual interest in them. A quiet existence, an trouble-free existence. and that i've got continuously enjoyed to sounds of Hobbit Holes, being somewhat short myself! :-)

Hands down Aragorn. He's a complex character, struggling with his desire NOT to be king at first, then as you watch the movies, you see him grow, and realize that that is his destiny. He's awesome in battle, extremely smart, brave and strong . . . how typical, but I love him nonetheless. I have posters, t-shirts, the extended editions of all the movies, I've read all the books, I even named my Chevy Tahoe "Strider." And honestly, I don't have a problem :)

shellable1992--- you are an idiot for three reasons. First because you can't spell. Second, because you took the time out to answer a question about a movie you obviously don't like. Third and finally because you didn't even answer the right question. These movies aren't for little teeny boppers... maybe that is why you shouldn't have stopped to view it while laguna beach was taking a commercial break.
THE BEST CHARACTER IN MY OPINION WAS HMMMM.... WELL I REALLY LIKED GIMLEY AND LEGOLAS BANTERING BACK AND FORTH. LOL. CRACKED ME UP. IN ROTK WHEN LEGOLAS TOOK DOWN THAT ELEPHANT AND ALL THE MEN ON HIM, GIMLEY IS LIKE "THAT STILL ONLY COUNTS AS ONE!"

Faramir!!! FARAMIR! Hail lord Faramir, son of Denethor of Minas Tirith, steward of Gondor!
Faramir is kind of a jerk in the movies, which don't capture his true personality. In the books he has it all. He is a feared warrior, stoic despite the disapproval of his father, loyal to the end, intelligent and a lover of lore and arts. Everything his brother Boromir was, but he never gets credit for it.
And he lands Eowyn at the end of Return of the King. Rwaarrr.
