I have 4 drives total (Local disk C; Gateway D; Local disk E; and a floppy) BUT, I don't have my cd/dvd (gateway) or my cd burner (sony). I mean, they are in there, but not working and not being recognized. Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like a jumper setting problem, your drives may be set as cable select, or not set properly as masters and slaves. That is ofcouse assuming the IDE cable is securely attached at both ends.

Since you already have a c, a d, and an E, you can only put one more device in your computer, unless you buy a PCI controller to add more devices.
You must chose either the cd/dvd drive or the CD-R drive, you can't connect both.

as long as your gadget meets the minimum standards for the interest you'll be effective. interestingly you have not reviewed this record because it could have for sure reported that a DVD ROM became into required. extra valuable verify your gadget out against the min standards b4 you open the packaging and cant return it for a refund. in case you meet all different standards then the exterior DVD ROM could resolve each and every thing. Why not get an inner? they're extra much less costly.

May be he removed the drives and never connected them. Can you open them? If so the power is atleast connected. Go to device manager and see if there they are listed.
