The New Venture theatre (www.newventure.org.uk) on Bedford Place (just near Waitrose) is an active drama club. They say:
"NVT prides itself on being a very friendly and decidedly non-cliquey theatre. We are always very keen to welcome new members of any age and level of theatrical experience (or non-experience, whatever the case!)

You can get involved in many different ways: working backstage, welcoming audiences front-of-house, serving behind the bar, constructing and designing sets, operating lighting and sound ... and so on.

New acting members and/or directors, designers and production assistants are also very welcome!"

Brighton Little Theatre (www.the-little.co.uk), just off Western Road, also appears to be friendly and to welcome new members. I know they are active too, as I now note that the membership secretary is someone I know through an ante-natal class...

I'd also suggest looking at listings in the Insight or the Latest (local free magazines) to see what's on. If you go and see a production, you'll get a good idea as to whether they are the type of company you want to join. if they are, there is sure to be contact information in the programme.

Contact local theatre's and ask if they have any groups attached - that's how a friend got involved. Also look in your local library
