I know this is not feasible for a number of reasons, but am I the only one that feels like we should build a wall around most of the Middle East and pretend it's not there?

I have a friend who says that we should establish a military cordon around the area and just drop weapons and ammunition into the middle of it until there is only one side left. Anyone who wants to leave can do so, but they have to move to West Texas and promise never to go back.

As for me, I think it's up to the UN. In 1948, they declared an independent Israel and established its borders. In think in 2006, they should do the same for an independent Palestine. If the Israelis complain that the UN cannot do that, it can respond "Why not? We did it for YOU!" But you would have to accept that UN peacekeepers might have to patrol that border for 25-50 years, until the generations that populate both sides grew up with this as the norm.

But that beats waiting for them to work it out on their own.

Dave Barry says that there will never be peace in the Middle East. Thousands of years from now, when mankind is extinct and only bacteria remain, the bacteria in Israel and those in Palestine will be bitter enemies.

The middle east has been at war hundreds of years before we entered their affiars, and after we leave it will continue. At least we are trying to do some right in a land of wrong.
