I beg to differ. If you truly look at the animal kingdom you will find cunning and creativity is the norm not the exception.

Look at all primates: they have culture, use tools and even play games.

The dolphin, whale and Seal populations have created exquisite rituals and tactics for everything from hunting and mating to ways of dealing with annoying members of the group.

Birds (in my mind the Crow, African Grey, Raven) are some of the most inventive birds ever seen...some able to mimic the intelligence of a three year old child.

Raccoons (that should be enough) try putting something a raccoon wants in a standard galvanized trashcan and you will learn what cunning is.

Wolf Packs...cunning is the basis for hunting tactics which allow them to bring down an animal weighing as much as a VW bug.

I would warn you regarding your anthropocentric view of the natural world. Cunning is something all of the higher order species display in one way or another.

Could man live without cunning? No...Neither could any other creature of the higher order...

I now have to inquire as to what end this question was posed.

Being cunning or conniving is an individual choice and has nothing to do with mankind as a whole.

Also being simple doesn’t also mean you be gullible that is also being foolish, but we also need have a certain trust in the basic goodness of mankind as without it how can we be ever at peace within ourselves?

A clever person never misuses his powers to harm or betray others trust in him. Instead he would rather use to for greater good and that is wise if you ask me as what we sow is what we reap later on. So each one of us has to decide for ourselves what do want to be, wise and peaceful or cunning and at war?!

So to be cunning is not clever in the long run as you always find some one who is more cunning than you and then you get beaten in your own game, so it is better to be wise and stay humble because there always will be and is someone wiser than you are right now, staying humble towards our own flaws gives us ample opportunities to grow and manifest our greater wisdom within us.

Having said that I would recommend that each one of us need to examine our own conscience to figure out where do we need to stand on this issue, as when it comes to suffering the consequences of our choices it is always an individual or personal experience so why not makes making choice also an individual conscience lead exercise rather than blindly follow what we believe the masses are doing as they can change without our knowing we might stay stuck in our past beliefs about the world and what is right or just to do, it is and has always been an individuals freewill and it is respected by the Universe.

And just because we think everybody does it, doesn't give it any legitimacy or rightness under the Law of Karma, as what we sow individually is what we shall we reap, personally.

the fact that you see others as cunning shows ur weakness. you dont know how to face life. tackling and dealing with all cunningness and emerging out is what is called deplomacy. give ur opponent whatever he gives you in the same sword. if he's cunning u act smart show him ur deplomacy. just like dealing with other qualities of fellowmen like anger, humor, joy try to take this also as a part of life. dont be judgemental and sit and brood, get up and face them ,show them how more cunning you can be. "eye for eye" is a hero's mantra.good luck.
