Well, first of all, what do you consider cheap?
If it's less than $400 - eBay is your best bet.
If it's $500 and up - try new Dells, like E1505 - very good value for the price ;)

Sometimes you can get one on ebay that is decent, but I wouldnt really trust that.
I would try to get the cheapest one you can from dell.com or hp.com and see if they offer you Student Discounts.
Cheapest new one you can get that is decent is 500...

my parents just recently bought one cheap from PC world for £400 it had about £100 off, it had over 1000MB of memory a media player, DVD, CD re-righter and a media centre.

wait til Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, one of the stores will have one for sale, for some cheap price, of under 400.00 accept if you want it ... get up early .... be at the place when it opens...
