Pumkin, Apple, and Cherry pies are always a winner in my family. But I have found some pretty good desserts that are not the usual at www.bettycrocker.com I use this site for all kinds of ideas.

Most people serve pecan and pumpkin pies.

Here's a recipe for a dessert that I've made for the last 10 yrs that everyone loves:

Cranberry Mousse

20 ounces crushed pineapple
1 cup water
6 ounces cranberry gelatin
16 ounces whole cranberry sauce
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
8 ounces sour cream
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Drain the pineapple, reserving the liquid. Add the liquid and water to the gelatin in saucepan and stir. Boil until the gelatin dissolves; remove from the heat.

Pour the gelatin into a large Pyrex serving bowl. Blend in the cranberry sauce, lemon juice, grated peel and nutmeg. Chill until the mixture thickens slightly, then blend in the sour cream. Fold in the pineapple and pecans. Chill until firm, about two to four hours, or overnight.

Pie is traditional, particularly pumpkin pie, but there are some great variations like maple pumpkin cheesecake (Better Homes & Gardens cookbook), pumpkin cake, or pumpkin spice ice cream. Warm cherry, apple-cranberry, or peach cobbler with ice cream are also delightful if you want something other than pumpkin.

Go to http://www.foodtv.com for a recipe if you want something new to try. But I'd have a sweet potato, pumpkin pie, or apple pie as a back-up in case they want the usual.
