same reason a hippopotamus is called a hippopotamus and not a giraffe....its just a name.

This is because the name square is used to identify a shape that has four corners all of anges 90degrees adding up to 360degrees.
And of equal lengths on all four sides.
while a circle is the name given to a shape that has no corners but made up of one curved line that connects it's begining to its end. thus its area is calculated as pi*r^2 as for the distance from its begining to its end is 2*pi*r.

thus if you call a circle a square you will be describing a four sided shape that has four angles in which its area can be derived as themultiple of any two sides (l*w)
while its perimeter will be derived as the sum of all sides multiplied by 2 in that it may provide the same value but its calculation procedure will be different. in which automatically is wrong.

Anyway there is a nececity of assign diferent names to diferent things and a circle is a diferent thik than a square.
