I've had the five gallon for a while and I just got the ten gallon the other day. Its all set up and I'm letting it cycle. I was just wondering the best way to move my fish.

If you move the filter from the 5 gallon onto the 10 gallon then you don't need to cycle it because the cycle would be carried over. After that you can use a net or a cup and scoop the fish up and place them in the new tank. Just make sure the temp and ph are the same or you will have to acclimate them like you would when you buy a new fish.

Remember how you got them at the Pet store. Normally I net them and put them into a plastic bag with the same water that in their existing 5 gallon. Then float the bag in the new 10 gallon adding a little water for it to their bag as it float. This allows them to adjust to any differences. Most times the old tank may be a little more Acidic and the new tank will be more Neutral in PH. Then after floating for 10-15 minutes and adding a little water about every three they ready to release. Depending on the type and number of fish, you may need to do it twice. I move less aggressive fish first and the more aggressive last.

nicely feels like you're fantastically knowlegeable already in that you presently have the recent tank biking. To make the bypass a lot less annoying on your fish move a million/4 to a million/2 of the water from the former tank into the recent tank, this can keep the advantageous micro organism that you've already accrued contained in the former tank. that is major contained in the biking procedure. most of the time human beings lose fish in a tank replace because of the inbalance of both chemical substances and bio-bacterias. those micro organism are had to assist to break down the fish waste authentic. think ofyou've got observed once you first presented your fish to the 5 gallon you presently have, that a pair days later the water were given somewhat cloudy it fairly is because the micro organism isn't yet on the right factor and subsequently unable to stability the device. once you've this difficulty on your bypass, you may purchase a liquid which will be further on your tank from a puppy keep to p.c. the biking of those micro organism (quick Cycle or Aqua Cycle). also yet another project to keep in concepts is that many cases once you've a smaller tank there is no want to have a heater. once you've tropical fish (i.e. some thing yet goldfish) you may want to get an aqaurium heater and thermometer for the recent tank, fantastically contained in the wintry climate months. Tropical fish are ideal in water from 72F - 78F tiers. reliable good fortune!
