The main issue of the Civil War was about state's rights and economic freedoms. Slavery played a part in the war, but was not the main issue!!! The south fought to gain independence from the aggressive northern tariffs and economic monopolies that the north controlled!!!

The real reason

Free the Slaves or liberate Industry from slave labor laws.

Free the Slaves or open the door to low cost Irish immigrant labor.

Follow the money . The law required exacting treatment of slaves. Sure Hollywood wants us to believe all slaves were chained to a plow and beaten every day. But in reality they required food and shelter and basic health care. It's true that malefactors were severely punished. But the majority worked less hours a day than the average American does today. No lighting meant no night shift.

Irish Immigrants not only worked for less than the cost of housing a slave labor force. Their historic culture of monastic lifestyle made them self managing therefore lowering industries production cost yet another notch.

So Civil War free the Slaves or Free the Millionaire Plutocrats??

Yeah, states rights - to have SLAVERY in some states, especially the new western territories that were suitable for growing cotton, a great crop for slaves to harvest. However, once the battles began, for many people in the South, it was simply an issue of defending their homeland from attacking and sometimes marauding Yankees.

are you talking about the American Civil War?

I know it was fought over the South wanting economic freedom from the North.

Slavery was a miniscule factor, and the Emancipation Proclamation was only issued after the North won a major battle, to try and get the British to stop supporting the South
