You should first find out what kind of turtle it is. Turtles 'close to' box turtles can include mud or musk turtles, some small tortoises, wood turtles, and more.
Some of these eat almost totally vegetables, others need to live in water and eat almost only meat.
Box turtles eat about 50-75% insects, worms, etc. and the rest is assorted veggies.
If you describe the turtle to us, we'll try to help, or you can try the 'World of Turtles' gallery at http://www.austinsturtlepage.com
Austin's Turtle Page is also a great site for care articles on various turtles.

I think you need to find out EXACTLY what species of turtle you have there.
There are a series of Fieldbooks on identifying reptiles and amphibians of North America. I believe the author is a person named Conant. You should be able to cehck them out or similar books in the library.
Some turtles are vegetarians, some are carnivores and some are omnivores. Hence the imporatnce of identifying your turtle.
Sort of like a box turtle isn't good enough. It could be a wood turtle, or a Blanding's Turtle or something quite different.
Also, some turtles like wood turtles and Muhlenberg's Turtles are endangered and keeping them is illegal.
Finally, make very sure you wash your hands after handling it. Turtles and many reptiles ( as well as chickens and other animals) can arry salmonella.

No iceburg lettuce or avacado. Feed dark green leafy veges( easy on the spinach). Try fruits like peaches, pears, mangoes, cantalope. Cooked squash is good, bananas, and grapes. Feed fruits and veges that are nutritous. I would add a calcium/vit. D supplement twice a week, and make sure your turtle gets plenty of high spectrum lighting, and clean water in a bowl big enough they can soak in. HTH

Cabbage, carrots, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, broccoli, yellow squash, zucchini, cucumber, raw potato, eco-friendly onion. fantastically a lot some thing you would eat. I have a dwarf hamster and that i feed her all sorts of vegetables. attempt a number of those and note which your turtle likes ideal.
