I know his first name, where he was raised, his occupation, and the company we worked for. The company went under and he was transfered, at which point we lost contact.

Think you have enough info to find him. Just go to the place he was raised and you know his occupation, you really have all the info you need.

try to get in the company's public records, maybe you can find his name in there.

maybe, if you know the name of his old boss, he could tell you from his record books what his last name was.
