Since I took over doing the laundry in my home, I have not really found a difference in laundry detergents. The cheap store brand seems to work as well as the expensive advertised kind. the only exception I've found is Arm & Hammer - it does not disolve well and I had to wash twice to get the powder off the clothes.
I use dryer sheets because I don't have a dispenser for the liquid, so it's easier.

I love the powder form of Arm and Hammer detergent. It gets the clothes smelling nice and gets the dirt out as well. I use sheets in the dryer because fabric softener makes such a gooey mess in the fabric softener dispenser.

Liquid- Walmart brand "mountain scent"- No joke- its great and cheap! It was a quick fix over a year ago and I love it. I loved Surf, and it works just as well and smells better to me.

Snuggle fabric softener and dryer sheets

I did use special "Drift" baby detergent for my son the first two years.

I use Surf powder or Dynamo liquid. Meijer often has the huge jugs of Dynamo on sale buy one get TWO free. What a bargain, what a deal. I usually use liquid fabric softener unless I leave the load in the washer for a bit then I throw sheet in the dryer, too.

Liquid Tide. I'm partial to the Febreeze scented Tide now. I also use the Febreeze scented Bounce dryer sheets.
