Simple answer: Having an out-of-control Iraq sharing their borders directly threatens their national security.

Neither country can absorb the flood of refugees and the potential of Turkish involvement has Iran worried.

That is not the case. Most of the violence that is taking place in Iraq is sectarian - between Sunni and Shite Iraqis, not outside "terrorists." Blair is asking for help - as we should have long ago - because Iran and Syria have influence in the region. He is hoping their backing and engagement can lead to a an end of the sectarian conflict. At this point, it's probably too little too late. It would not be in Iran and Syria's interest to back a U.S. led state on their neighboring border.

please be more specific in your question. What type of help is Tony Blair asking for? Who is the "there" (their, I assume)? Which country are you referring to here? Who is "the terrorist" you are referring to? Can't answer a question that makes no sense. Sorry.
