Actually they are not called peasant.. peasant is much much lower than anyone.. because they are still part of the society of the philippines..

A peasant is someone whose level in society is below the elite and the middle class. He is usually a farmer, a vendor, a laborer. And he is usually from the boondocks. He is also called a simple person because of the low status he has in society. So, in Tagalog, a simple person is "simple'ng tao".
