Am I the only person to miss the tv series Firefly? I was watching Serenity again last night, and had to wonder why they saw fit to discontinue it so soon. Do you think there is too much of just chopping off of good tv shows without so much as a by your leave?

Thank you for the answers everybody! I'm so glad I'm not the only one to to miss Firefly.
I agree it was a criminally stupid decision to discontinue it, Cardinal Fang.
I also bought both the DVD set and the movie DVD, and hope there will indeed be a second movie, Forcewon.
Chris C, I would terribly miss the actors were they to be changed :(

FOX killed Firefly. They had no idea what it was that they had. So much potential wasted. You are right, network directors tend to cut loose quality shows way to early.
I'm afraid that the 'verse is gone from Television. Joss has said in interviews that we will no longer see the world of Firefly as it has been, but he is not ready to put the 'verse to bed yet. That could mean spin offs, or comics, but most likely the crew of Serenity has retired.
Nathan Fillion has started a decent acting career (Did you see him in the last episode of Lost?). I saw Morena in an episode of How I Met Your Mother last week, too. My advice, look for your heroes in other shows and films and at conventions. They are great to talk to and really appreciate the fan interaction.

I didn't even get into Firefly until my father saw the movie and wanted to see what the TV Show was about. So we watched the series and then the movie. If the show wasn't cancelled so early, then the movie wouldn't have been made. I wish the show would've lasted, but the movie Serenity is one of the few movies where if it's on, I'll watch no matter what. Serenity is a great movie, and I've heard that the actors (all of them) have signed a new Non-Disclosure Aggreement and one even hinted of a new movie...Plus, it could be resurrected back to TV like Family Guy and Futurama (coming to Comedy Central 2008, btw). Hope for the best.

I got so angered after they canceled Firefly that I haven't watched any television series on a regular basis since then. Something about intelligent shows doesn't sit well with television viewers.
Considering FOX canceled it, and considering they were the same network that sat through horrible ratings the first few years of the X-Files...well, that was a big mistake, IMO, to cancel.

We in the UK never had Firefly - I got to love it when I bought the DVD.
Judging by what Joss Whedon has said about what was going to happen later (finding out more about the Blue Sun corporation, and just how Book knows so much about crime and violence for a shepherd), it's criminal it was cancelled.

It had a horrible time slot, Friday nights, so the viewership was low and then it got cancelled due to lack of ratings. Yes, tv shows get cut too early and often it is because the networks give them bad time slots.
