I have a 1991 Toyota Corrolla. Everytime a take a right turn or hit a bump my rear end makes a loud bumping sound. Could it mean I need new struts or something else?
Sounds worse when its cold outside.

I am assuming you are speaking of the car's rear end. There are a few things in the rear suspension that could make the noise you are describing. The things I would check would be the struts to see if they are weak or loose. Next would be the wheel and bearing, again, to see if they are loose or the bearing is worn. After that, I would check the sway bar, it has bushings that attach it to the body and they can wear. As you are doing these checks, you can look at all the suspension mounts to see if they are loose. Typically rear suspension noises like this are fairly easy to diagnos, it just takes a little looking. If you are not mechanically inclined, most shops will do a free underbody inspection for you. Good luck.

Could be a weak spring, or bad strut (shock absorber). It could also mean that you have something heavy that is "loose" in your trunk, - and rolls to that side easily (but stays stable going the other direction), -- you would be surprised how many times I have found this to be a problem when I worked in garage!

You can check the "shocks" by bouncing up and down on each corner of the car. Apply full weight to bumper and release rapidly, it should make the car bounce "up and down", - when you stop, - the bad shock will allow the car to continue bouncing 2 or 3 times, -- a good shock generally stops the bouncing with one "bounce"! The worse the shocks, - the more it will bounce, (and the esasier it will bounce too!)

It most likely is a strut. You're car has struts front and rear. find a reputable repair shop and ask for a written estimate to repair the problem. Most shops will give you a free estimate of repairs. If they will not give a written estimate move on to another shop. If it is a strut replace then in pairs and you will need an alignment also.
