I love it- there is a deeper meaning past the superficial aspect of Betty. This is not a campy sitcom. You must look deeper. If you don't' get it, then its because you have not experienced it.
The last show dealt with "ugly" and the pride of honesty, the fact her father was an illegal alien, knowing when to call it quits with a guy, even if its comfortable, Her still having pride to comfort an woman, whom is mean and jealous of her "ugly or not" for having a sense of self and being happy.
The Business (father's murderer) subplot is weak- Betty's family is the focus.
This is based a Mexican Novelia, that deals with very serious issues through humor and distraction.
Look at the big profile celebrity names on the producers list...this has some staying power!

The critics are the ones raving about this show, and as such the network just uses that to promote it. But since I haven't seen it I can't offer an opinion about its quality, just my opinion about the premise.
Personally just the title of this one turns me off. The star of this show is only ugly because of the makeup and clothing. I'm sure she's quite pretty when not on the show. As a true "ugly girl" growing up (skinny, bowlegged, big nose, bad posture, and glasses at a time when glasses weren't cool), I find myself put off by this premise. But perhaps it will help the truly ugly girls to not be ashamed of how they look.

I havent watched a whole episode either. I watched about 10 minutes of it and turned the channel. It was dumb. Networks are probably trying to convince people that it is good so they will watch it and get higher ratings.

You should give it a chance. For those who haven't seen it.. it is really good. I'm addicted!! you can tell cause I'm on here searching Q's on Ugl betty! And someone mentioned that it's a rip off of he Devil wears Prada? But actually the story was developed way before TDWP..... so there you have it! give it a chance! you won't regret it!!! it's a hit with me!!!!!

I love this show it is one of my favs and I dont get interupted on thursday nights by anybody cause everybody knows I am watching ugly betty. I LOVE It 1!!!!!good luck and god bless and happy thanksgiving.

The show is o.k... Story isn't any different than any other show I have watched. I will watch it once in a while, it has alot of funny parts. But a hit? I don't think so.

I have never seen it. I have never spoken to anyone who has seen it. I have never heard people at work talk about seeing it.
I'm pretty sure no one has ever watched this show. Yet I keep seeing the promo's that tell me it is a highly rated show. Hmmmmm.

I love it as well. There are a ton of other countries that have similar shows. I think it appeals to all us "uglies"!
