kelly : i'm not questioning the 'realness' of reality although that would be an interesting topic/ questions but my question here is whether one can avoid a certain reality by living in another just as real or by living in both at the same time...

Yes?

Look at the insane. They avoid reality & live in an alternate reality that is just as real to them, though it is only in their mind. In some cases, when people can't bear to deal with the reality they are in (perhaps after the death or a loved one or other traumatic event) they may snap & choose to live somewhere else in their mind, refusing to see where they really are. Others with mental disorders may not choose an alternate reality but they have one nonetheless (hearing voices or seeing things that are not there).

I would say that living or trying to live an alternative reality is having a mental problem. If you are talking about finding the alternative reality via scientific means it is called a scientific research.

Easy: If he / she / it mentions praising Jesus or Allah... then they're living in a fantasy world with an ever-watching god, multiple layers of heaven and hell, and all kinds of other strange and crazy mythical stuff.

Of course... if you see them grovelling before any other symbolic stuff or going through a strange personality pattern when mentioning some name or other... thats a pretty good sign too.

But then again... sometimes I wonder just how valid this reality the rest of us non-theistics are living in is...

[Edit]: The fact remains though that the athiest reality is far more consistant than the theistic "realities" .... and since consistancy is the basis of all knowledge, that automatically makes ours more true.
Of course, it might not be the MOST true... but its more true than theirs.

There's nothing as real as reality.
You're outta luck.

You can try dreaming if you don't like reality...
