Well, depending on person coming. We made sure our fire extinguishers worked, we put plugs into all of our sockets, we had an escape plan...(my hubby can sometimes be a little anal). Our home inspection went fine. Make sure you have food in the freezer / no or not much alcohol. We have a bar downstaires that we keep somewhat stocked and we just put a lock on it. We didn't know what age group we were going to get so we did for just about any age group. Also, make sure he will have his own bed...not room, but at least his own bed. They only require something like a 3 foot by 5 foot space per child.

How old is the nephew? The home should be appropriately child-resistant for his age. Say the nephew is 3. Power outlets should be covered with those plastic inserts, if you have stairs, there should be child gates nearby, there should be child-resistant latches on lower cabinets where cleaning supplies are normally stored. The home should be clean and in good repair. There should not be any hazards in the yard. If you have a porch with stairs, again, a child gate. Age appropriate outdoor toys, if installed (naturally, not required, I don't know your living situation), should meet code and be in good repair. The home should be an appropriate level of clean. Food, naturally should be in the house. The childs room should be tidy and age appropriate.

That depends. Are there issues with the nephew or with the home? Age of nephew? Why is he being removed? Basically, the more you know, the better. Ask to see his file. You should have complete access before taking him in.

Firstly, well done you for stepping in when needed! I wouldnt be too worried they just av to check that your home is suitable ie. clean and warm, it doesnt av to be a palace! My mum fostered over 80 children through the years and we had an average household. He will need his own bedroom and lots of patience love and understanding! Good luck for the future.
