when u turn on the computer does ur system boot? or does it stuck at a certain point? does it give a blue screen? does the hard disk makes an un-usual noise?
if it does boot, does it get stucky all the time? for no apparent does the system halt, n stop working unless u restart?

these are few things that u might notice when u have a hard disk issue

Depending on your o.s.
You could run scandisk
You could d/l a freeware hardware checker
Norton Disk Doctor
If you don't care about the data you could format mat your hard drive format c: /s/u/v command. Under windows 98 with boot disk
It will format it, put the system command, label it and verify the hard drive The link is for Western Digital find your drive and model on your drive!
If the drive clicks and or doesn't spin up before the data cable is plugged in. If you power off your system and put the data cable back on and you don't get data.
You could have a bad ribbon or cable.
Go to the hard disk mfg web site and get their free lite verson of
hard drive health, hard drive life tools, etc

it dont work or cliks or whines or the pc says something like hdd0 not found
