Any other coach wouldn't be fined, but is Knight subject to different rules based on him previous behavior?

I think Bob Knight's past is definately an issue in determining penalties by the NCAA. Simply because he switched teams does not make his slate become "clean". He made those choices to throw tantrums and his past has followed him. I, too, am from Indiana, and this subject seems to come up every year about now. Hopefully Bob "what's up" Knight (IU fans will get that reference) has changed his ways. I'm going to quit talking about him before I feel his wrath reach through the computer and kick the chair out from under me.

I'm a boxing coach and i work with young kids and teenagers all the time and in 10 years of doing this i have never put my hands on a person. You can scream, yell, demonstrate, beat the wall or whatever is your method of getting your point across, but you should never, ever, hit someone as a coach. Bobby Knight is a bully who not only does it to kids but from what i've heard, even bullied staff members at Indiana. My neighbor's son went there when he was coaching and he said a lot of incidents were swept under the rug because Knight was winning. This guy has had several ridiculous incidents including choking a player yet people always seem to make excuses for this clown. And if you don't think it's anything wrong with what he did, go up to a cop and pop him on the chin and see what happens. Or better yet, pop your boss on the chin and see how long you have your job. My point is, you can't put your hands on someone. But i guess you can if you can win and graduate students.

It was a little bit out of line. But that's Bobby Knight for you. Texas Tech knew he was that way when they hired him. His temper and stubborness are his two flaws. He is a genious as far as the game of basketball is concerned, however he is sometimes too stubborn to change his ways. He also other than his temper is a person you will never see break the NCAA rules. He is impeccable as far as making sure his athletes graduate and maintain their grades. You have to remember that Bobby Knight started out his college coaching career at West Point. He sticks to the rules and has the temper of a boot camp drill sargent. They don't call him the General for nothing. In summary, he's a great coach who's stubborn and has a bad temper. He's known for his temper, so I'm sure he gets more attention than other coaches that have done the same thing.

That player should have gave Knight a swift headbutt back.

Bobby Knight does whatever he wants because the university athletic directors and regents allow him to since he puts fans in the seats and brings in the revenue for the university. It's a travesty.

i dont agree, i think that he crossed way over the line. he has to learn that by beating your players isnt going to make them play better. they are college players and they dont want to take **** from anyone. it dont happen everywhere if it did then it would be all over ESPN. Bobby knight is stuck back in the golden years when thats how they got people to do what they want. it might as well be a teacher hitting a student.

No you said it yourself any other coach can do this with no repercussions. Knight has a history of violence but since he went to Texas Tech he has been a model citizen (for him). I would not do anything to him if I were in charge of the schools athletics or as a NCAA executive.

Texas knew about his history when he was hired....they can't really think that he will change the way he coaches. It was possibly out of line....but he will still get away with it.
I'm from Indiana and live just outside Bloomington (IU) and was never a fan of his, mostly because of his "my or no way" attitude. He likes to Bully his players, and there were many complaints that never went anywhere because he was a winning coach. Personally...I'm glad he is gone from here, but my husband liked him. He said thats how all coaches used to be...it's just the way it was.

I think those little half slaps happen everywhere....its just that when Bob Knight does it, it gets put under a microscope cuz of his history....choking a player is one thing, but giving a guy a tap on the face cuz he was staring at the floor is nothing.

Bob Knight is out of control. You can cuss and scream your lungs out at a kid, but you should never hit them. It wouldn't be such a major topic if Knight didn't do this sort of thing all the time.
