It seems like with e-mail and speed comes less sophisticated language. People type the message, they do not write in cursive. Hand written letters express individuality a lot better. Is it a sign of so called 'progress' or are we on the way of becoming something like Borg from the Star Trek?

It's two-edged sword. Speaking for myself, receiving a hand-written letter makes it more special...more like the person is actually talking to me. But as for writing letters...I enjoy the opportunity to instantly edit the text so that it more accurately reflects my thoughts...along with the fact that my handwriting is terrible. But the down-side of that it is more sterile and less personal. Although I set out to disagree with you, I have to agree that we are indeed becoming more like the Borg, and not only in communication, but with the advance in technology, we have become more independent, and don't need each other in same sense we did in the "old" days. But we aren't going to give up our goodies voluntarily, so I don't see a cure. The price of progress, I think, is the loss of humanity.

Heh... I wish...
Religion deprives people of their individuality.
Computers are a means of returning it to them. Nothing is quite like the Internet for allowing us to truly express ourselves as individuals, where in real life we can be nothing more than tools of the system.
That is why I am dedicated to battling the theists even here as they encroach upon our sacred haven.... seeking to infect us with their mind-control disease... metaphorically speaking.
While I agree that some of the typing online is absolutely atrocious, its got nothing to do with a lack of individuality so much as simply a lack of care on their part.
I once made an agreement with my friend Femuar when I was younger however that some day we would develop nanoprobes to subvert and network cognitive functions between individuals (against their will or otherwise) and found the Borg Collective... and then we would proceed to assimilate or eliminate the whole of humanity in one selective sweep.

everything is computers now the whole world is changed..computers in everywhere yeah it sure sometime deprive people from their individuality because they will feel tierd if they have to write a letter from their hand they would love to type it on by just pressing some buttons and click on send message..so of course people wiil prefer that BUT HEY we are living in a mordern world we need computers..

No. I am an older person, I did not know how much having a computer would improve my life. It actuality increases my individuality, I can read newspapers in my native language now.
I can practice my English skills daily and improve them. The computer is a tool in educating ones self and for me a real blessing.

no. i like to use the computer to express myself. I have had a lot of success at this. I have never spoken in a sophisticated language, but i also try not to use the little shortcuts, ROFL, LOL, IDK, and so forth. computers don't steal our individuality. WE just seem to give it away.
