It may be territorial. If it is it will happen soon after they are put together. If it happens a week or more later then that, it may be a food issue. If they seem to be only eating the brains I would try a food higher in protein or even give them nuts to eat as a supplement. If they are eating more than that, they may need to be fed more often. Also make sure they have other activities to keep them busy. A wheel and things to chew on.

truthfully, this is totally organic. Hamsters are actually not very social creatures with one yet another. The daddies will eat their own little ones if the mummy does not kill him first. Hamsters ought to in no way be caged mutually. I found out this the problematic way. My 2 male dwarf hamsters attacked one yet another and the two died. My husband had 2 gerbils and one killed the different. It grew to become into unexpected and unpredicted. foodstuff furnish has not something to do with the bloodshed. this is all approximately territory. solid success and please don't have better than one hamster consistent with cage from now on.

Hamsters are territorial animals that do not do well in a group. Often when a hamster's territory gets invaded, he/she will defend it by attacking the invader until he/she leaves. Because they are in a cage, the territories overlap and the invader may be unable to get out of the dominant one's domain. Thus he/she continues to attack until the invader is maimed to death.

They will also use their babies as food if they do not feel that there is an adequate food supply in the cage. This is both as a source of food as well as a prevention of overpopulation and subsequent shortage of food. When you have a litter of babies make sure you feed AND water the hell out of the adults so that they have a surplus. (My rats are the same way about the babies and I have found this to work).

mamas do it to their babies if you touch them. and fathers do it just because they're agressive. Remove the father. Don't touch the babies. And monitor their television. Too many violent movies leads to destructive behavior
